Bosque County Courthouse
In celebration of Texas Independence Week, the Bosque County Collection in collaboration with FSSB sponsors “Journey to Parker’s Fort,” a program on Orpha Bates James Anglin, presented by Nancy McSwane, on Tuesday, March 5, 2018, at 6:00 in the evening. The presentation will be held in the Bosque County District Courtroom in the historic Bosque County Courthouse, Meridian.
Dressed in period costume and accompanied by her granddaughter, Nancy McSwane will present her family history in a story that happened only a stone’s throw from her family farm.
A member of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Mrs. McSwane serves as head of Financial Development for that Chapter. McSwane is also an associate member of the DRT Chapter named for her ancestor, the Seth Hurin Bates Chapter in Kingwood, as well as Regent for the Jonathan Hardin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Mexia. A descendent of the Bates family, said to be one of the first thirteen families in the part of Roberston’s Colony that is now Limestone County, Mrs. McSwane is also a member of First Families of Limestone County.
Organized in April 1900, the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas is now the fourth oldest DRT chapter in the state. Members of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter work toward preserving and safeguarding Texas history by perpetuating the memory and spirit of those who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas.
